OK, NOW we are talking. College ball...you bet. Pro, bring it. I LOVE football.
This is where we can lay aside the politics for awhile and talk something totally senseless...Oh HELL yea.
Now if your talking Carolina PANTHERS...gotta agree with you. They have the makins this year, damn..they are stacked. Surely you couldnt be talking Tar Heels or Gamecocks...not going to happen for either one.
Odds makers are placing Panthers at #1 this year. In fact,
eh-hem...Red neck couch potatoes are as well. (I dont know any but thats what I hear...)

Look for the Bears to win their conference once they get two key areas figured out:
1) Who is their go to guy at running back. They signed Cedric Benson to a huge contract (mistake) and Thomas Jones is none too happy about it, as he has been that go to guy all of last year and so far this year.
The Bears and running backs are not a good mix since Payton last played.
2) Will Rex Grossman last at QB? He is easily injured and really has not been mucxh of a performer over his entire career, despite expectations. If he gets in a groove, look out, all the other pieces are in place. Brian Griese has had a great pre-season and fans are out of patience with Grossman, calling for Griese.
If they figure out who is the "man" in both positions they can easily win their conference and could go to the Super Bowl.

Yeah, I am talking Panthers for Pro, for College I am basiclly an ACC fan, but I pull for FSU the most.
Besides the Panthers (who I think have the best division), I think THe Colts really have something going this year.
THe Panthers are stacked deep and we have the highist rating when it comes to depth this year, especially in defense, mainly LB and CB. I most amazed that Lucas dids not go to the pro-bowl last year. I just love the addition of Keyshawn and Williams on offense, both looked very sharp in pre-season and they just had more guns to are already heavly stacked in talent offense.

Green dude. Syracuse??? Love dem Orange but shouldn't they win more than 3 games?
I do like the Bears and IF their offense can match a very talented defence...could be a Conference.
Colts. Deep and talented. Steelers. I dont see a repeat but as always, they will challange.
Texans...

Sorry, I live here. Best they can do is 8-8.
Mountaineers of WVU will be a hard team to beat though Big East isnt strong. ACC. Virginia Tech again. Anyone else? Texas will NOT repeat. OSU, a maybe. Not. Dame...strong with a heisman type Qb and stunning defence.

Almost all of them will jump ship, for the money and playing time.

True. But not always. SOme people once they make a name for themselve in one place, would never play anywhere else. Many names come to mind. One that is currently playing would be Bret Favre, could you see him in anything but green?

I recall when Elway got drafted.
Hard to imagine him as anything but a Bronco. But back when he got drafted he let it be known that some who wanted him, we would refuse to play. He wanted "a warm climate". I guess the Denver Pay check was plenty warm enough.

They ARE good and with Shawn Alexander, the can play with the big boys. Good lord, if Charlotte had picked him up
Speaking of money, a local kid who is friends with my eldest daughter went to Stanford then to the 49'ers. He was here several months ago and has played for 3 years and said he was thinking of "retiring" from football. However, seems the 49'ers made an offer he agreed to. He said in a disappointed tone, "it wasnt a GREAT offer but I can make it on 3.5 MILLION a year".

Make it???????

Wow. Can you imagine even thinking that?

Yes Carolina has a football team, in fact we have one of the best recuirting class for next year. With teams like NCState, Clemson, Miami, BC, VT, and FSU in your conference, it is kinda hard to get noticed. Atleast we are better then Duke, that is all I care about.
Speaking about Panthers RB, I think we got a good show in Williams. He is good on his game in the pre-season and I expect him to really break out during the season. Fox made a good move keeping Goings aswell and moving him to FB. Hell even our 2nd is better then some teams starters.
Sky, I think Seatle is more then just SA, Hassleback is doing good so far and he has resonable people to throw the ball to.

Anyone still have doubts about USC? Damn did Booty show up to play.
My favorite game of the weekend though was ND vs GT, that was a good game that had alot of fight in it.
Cant wait to watch the FSU vs Miami. That will be a good game for sure. Go FSU! After that game I will comment on who I think will be the top five this year.

I bet they lose at least three games this year. They are lacking speed and toughness.

Ahh.. as a Notre Dame fan I see it as the glass is half full, the defense played out their asses, which is something they didn't do last year(see USc and Ohio State games), and defense is usually ahead of offense this time of year, unless you open with a Div 1 AA school .
Of course I still root my my alma mater, Toledo as well .
On the pro side , its all about those loveable losers , the Cleveland Browns, though the new hierarchy seems to have the team moving in the right direction.

Yea, right....Ill get right on that turning off the games..................right after the Bowl Games and Sper Bowl. Besides....you have a point? Far as Im concerned, sex is the same thing, a distraction.....Im pretty much liking the distractions so far.......
Good weekend of College. Next week, OSU and Texas. Could be the writing on the wall. Game in Texas.
No predictions for top 5 yet, too early MM. Give me a week or so on that. Miami playing well for a first game, FSU Qb seems rattled.
North Carolina lost to somebody that is really weak...hummmm.....no.....couldn't be....

West Virginia....think they are going to be pretty tough. We will see when they actually play someone.

Lighten up RIO.
An intelligent person can watch TV selectively, and not be harmed or suffer brain damage.
An intelligent person KNOWS when they are being sold a bill of goods, and choose to not buy!
Maybe we should stop listening to the radio too? If we drive, we are subjected to the Billboards that are there to fill up the space between shopping centers.
The TV, like any technological tool, has to be used wisely.

CHICAGO - Kendall County furniture store owner and "huge Bears fan" Randy Gonigam got tired of players bragging about their defense, so he decided to put his money where their mouths are. Over Labor Day weekend, Gonigam's World Furniture Mall in Plano offered customers free furniture — up to $10,000 — if the Bears shut out the Green Bay Packers in their season opener. Four quarters, 206 customers and about $300,000 later, Gonigam is still a little shell-shocked.
This is beyond our wildest dreams," he said.
But the fact that it was a long shot didn't keep him from insuring the store for up to $300,000 worth of furniture with a company that specializes in insuring prize reimbursements.
The Bears blanked the Packers 26-0 Sunday, ending Green Bay's 233-game scoring streak and giving Brett Favre the first shutout of his 16-year NFL career.
Gonigam got the idea to offer full refunds to customers who bought furniture over Labor Day after hearing Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher brag that the team would have the best defense in the NFL this year.
"As a Chicago sports fan, you get frustrated," he said. "I thought, 'Prove it.'"
Customer and expectant mother Kathleen Spayer, 40, of Sugar Grove went back into the store Monday to make sure her $5,000 master bedroom suite was really free.
"It's the luckiest year of my life," she said.
Plano is about 45 miles southwest of Chicago.
