Were you using the actual "BitTorrent" program?

I recommend switching to UTorrent or Azureus instead of BitTorrent. I could never get BitTorrent to work correctly, UTorrent is more reliable and more user friendly and has some nice features that BitTorrent doesn't have.

Azureus is similar to UTorrent but takes up more of your computers resources when it is running so you can't surf the internet and download at the same time as smoothly as with UTorrent. So try UTorrent and if it crashes too, try Azureus.
