I just wanted to say a formal goodbye to the POAC, and the gang over here. I've had a great time, but I feel that it's time for me to move along to another board. I no longer feel that the political tone of this board is what I am looking for in terms of an online community, and will be moving on to someplace else. I have stayed away lately, and seeing the owner of this board publicly joke about a serious matter, even going to far as to quote a private email he received to prove his point, is too much.

I may have mentioned before that I keep tropical fish. I started out with a small aquarium, but quickly moved to a much larger tank. What I noticed was that when something goes wrong in a small tank, fish die right now. With a big tank, problems move more slowly, and can be headed of IF they're noticed. A lot like what has just happened here. A great microcosmic view of the past 20 or so years of American politics, where the radical left has been demonized, trivialized, marginalized and finally discarded. That makes the moderate left the new end of the spectrum, the new radical left and the next target. What this has accomplished in 20 years nationally is the movement of center so far to the right that it makes Dick Nixon look like a pinko, with all the social reform he accomplished. And China. It took much less time to chop off the radical left here, in the small fishbowl, and drag the center to the right. Congratulations on today's civics lesson. We've had a few agents provocateur play on the petty resentments of a few people in order to divide them and have them do the dirty work themselves. Just an observation.

These discussion forums are all the same, there is always a natural evolution of members, some leave, some stay, and new members fill in the gaps. The pendulum swings this way, that way, and then rests for a while.

And Gadzooks, I woulds say you have summed up the American political scene of the past 25 years nicely with your comments. What really concerns me, however, are two things:

1) The dumbing down of America is complete.
2) The media is complicit in selling the conservative lie.

And the best part is the conservatives will ALWAYS be screaming "liberal media!" even if every network was the equivalent of FOX, thereby playing the martyr. And it benefits the media as well, giving them the impression they are searching for answers. A classic win-win.

I also noticed a trend in hacking and virus authoring. A little over a year ago, hackers started moving away from being happy with just crashing bill's evil empire, and went into business. Your computer doesn't crash anymore, it spams and collects personal data. Shortly thereafter, trolling started to get more sophisticated as well. Instead of bringing a forum down, such as was done with, say MRD, the trend is to move in, drive out the most ardent and effective members and co-opt the site. Either kill its credibility or rein it hard to the right. Doesn't much happen on conservative sites, because they don't put up with that shit. Happens on liberal and progressive sites, where we feel obligated to hear their POV. Of course, it couldn't happen here, because we're all too smart. Intellectuals.

I'm not interested in clicking the link. But here's what I think of that:

When you focus more on your little social group than on the objective, you are lost. The POAC as a Project does great work, and they know it. And if they don't want to support something as good as the Project because we allow some people who don't share thier exact same views to post in our forum and don't allow people to retain their admin status when they actively undermine the forum, well, then they have some problems. Obviously the need for personal validation far outweighs any real activism intent and purpose.

Scorp's over there? Ha, that's funny. Catherine was furious that I wouldn't ban him. Now he's over there in the POAC hater's club. They both said a bunch of shitty things about him on their way out. If they are playing buddy buddy now, that's horrendously two-faced. And humorous.

What I really get a kick out of is the overexaggerated drama of it all. When I told Catherine that I was taking away her admin status with no further restrictions on her ability to participate here, she sent me back a PM that started off, "Thanks for taking me off the admin staff..." and I was thinking, 'cool, she's being reasonable' but then it led into this hateful invective filled rant and I was like, 'whoo boy, guess not...DELETE'.

Then there was Lefty. That email response that I quoted to begin the Exodus thread was a response to something she sent me. I posted that in the forum to clarify my stance for everyone's benefit. I was simply repeating something that I said to her. I didn't allude to her. I didn't include any quote from her. I even went out of my way to edit it to make it appear that there was more than one person giving me grief, although it was only she who said anything to me about it at that time. I edited out my response to her accusation that I was an "ass kisser". I went well out of my way to prevent it from reflecting poorly upon the person who sent it and kept it as neutral as possible. But man, oh man, the response from lefty was absolutely flammable. According to her, that we the shittiest underhanded hurtful thing I could ever have done. She just went bananas. Even though she was kept completely out of it.

We all saw Tapper's silliness. "Smacked down sweet Lefty... slapped down Catherine...etc etc"

Two words are all I have: DRAMA QUEENS.

And now they have a unifying cause to bring them together in support and solidarity. My message to them? Happy I could help. Now continue all that hard work you do to make the world better. Oh yeah, well, continue doing what it is that you do.
