Full Version: Good Republicans

I can only think of one Republican that seems like he could handle being a candidate for President that could do the job if winning the seat.

http://hagel.senate.gov/

I cant honestly think of anyone else who would make a candidate that would be palatable, does anyone know of a Republican that would be an effective candidate? Not Brownback of Kansas, either, if he is not living in full blown wingnuttville he lives in its suburbs. Peronally I think he lives in the city center, along with all the others who screamed over stopping funding for stem cell research.

A brave question.

But I don't think there are even alot of Democrats who are palatable to most of the folks on this board.

Thats not a jab either. Just that I think most people on this board are what you call progressive or non-conformist. Hell, even you are a conservative compared to some here odanny.

I have a strong conservative streak. Anyone who is rational will vote outside party lines, except Republicans who support the polarizing party in power today, who seemingly are more obsessed with blaming their faults on Democrats than on discussing the merits of who they support.

Who do you find palatable in the GOP if I may ask?

One of the first things I look at is, where do they get their money?
Here's Hagel's:

He's got tobacco, defense, oil, finance, all squeky clean.

There are some good Republicans out there, but none I would like to see for President. After two terms of George W. Bush and his Republican Mafia, I don't think I we really need to get another Republican in there. Republicans have proven that they cannot be trusted to lead the country.
sky of mind
I would hazard a guess that there are some good republicans around.
But right now we need all the Democrats we can get into the congress to retake power.
Then after we get a power shift and begin the process of putting this country back on track,
then the good republicans can do what evber they need to do to clean their own house, and if they fail to do so, just as if the Democrats fail to do so, the American people will be watching and will vote their feelings.

I have liked McCain for a long time. But with the recent revelations about his past, I have to research him further. I agree with your assessment of Hagle.

To be honest with you, there aren't alot of Republicans that I'd endorse for president, not many Democrats either though. We are just experiencing a shortage of good presidential material lately.
Abell9
NO, there do not seem to be many "good Republicans" in the spotlight. Like Capt. America, I had hoped John McCain would distance himself from the pack and use HIS head, not the party line. And, like myself, the values that were Republican, conservative, reasonable.... we little people sit and look at what is there and say..."WTF??? THAT is NOT what we sent you there for.

Hagel is an election rigger. I haven't liked a republican since Eisenhower.

I don't know too much about him, to be honest. I think he's the guy with a reputation for talking a good game but not much on the follow-through. I may be thinking of someone else. I'm super tired right now.

I've heard good things about Huckabee or Huckabe or Humperdink, whatevuh. But again, i don't know a lot about him either.

McCain's just another extreme right winger, masquerading as a maverick. Don't be fooled. He's a whore who will do whatever it takes - look at his recent kissing of Jerry Falwell's massive fundament.

He's against marriage equality. He's in favor of making my reproductive health choices for me. The "straight talk express" is a load of hooey.

Let me ask all you dems and repubs one question. You both have been in control of this country for a very long time and this country is going to hell in a hand basket (my dad's favorite saying) would you not agree? Why do you still think you are better than the other?? Statistics prove that neither of you are doing a credible job. Maybe you should both admit your shortcomings and go away.
