According to Rassmusen, Lieberman holds a slight lead over Lamont in the Connecticut general election.

Rassmusen

Is this a surprise to anyone? Considering the fact that Democrats were angry with Lieberman over his stand on the war, it was a safe bet that Lamont would win the primary.

The general election is a whole nother ball game. And I use the Connecticut general election campaign as a way to illustrate why I think the Democrats need to invest more time and effort in articulating their agenda, their plan for the country and how they plan on getting the country to that point.

Relying on the performance of the previous occupant of the White House or the party in control of Congress is a risky strategy.

I'm not trying to throw water on anyone's hopes. I'm just trying to keep the Democrats grounded in reality. A real mandate delivered by the voting public should be the goal, and the early polling for the Connecticut general election should be enough to scare the Democrats into working hard to convince Americans why it is better to vote for them instead of why not to vote the other guys.

Interesting that in this race, the Republican candidate is the spoiler!
When has that ever happened before? And whom will he spoil?

Other than that, the poll numbers at the beginning of September will be far more interesting.
It's still a bit too soon to have anything realistic.

Agreed, lots of campaigning left.

But too much a stake to take anything for granted.

I don't believe anyone is taking anything for granted.
By the end of the month we should know if support for Leiberman is real of a figment.

When has it happened before that a sitting Republican president and the Republican National Comittee have not endorsed a Republican senatorial candidate, a six term state senator BTW? This is gonna be real interesting.

Add in all those DLC Democrats that supported him before but say now they can't,
indeed, this is virgin territory.
