Shameful, NO???
Somehow people take what they want as fact without even listening to the truth.
Bush's push about Saddam was his R E C O N S T I T U T E D Bio/Chem weapons programs. He clearly stated this several times. So did the Dick and Colin. And Rummy for that matter. Followed up by the Con 'da Lie-za supportive assertion OF the
M U S H R O O M cloud in connection to the Yellow-Cake Uranium they KNEW was from Niger.
Oops, what they meant was the buried and degraded, long lost desert weapons from Papa Bush's war with Saddam, RIGHT??? Funny 'cuz that wasn't the Burlesque song and dance show they were peddling in 2002 now was it???

don't blame the average joe for being duped. Blame the propagandists that lie to them. If we had the fairness doctrine, Hannity and Limbaugh and FOX"news" wouldn't be able to operate the way they do and we woulnd't have this problem.

Hold on a minute. Where is your supporting documentation? Can you provide a link to back up this sweeping charge?
It has been my observation that although some pundits are claiming that Bush was right about WMDs and a couple Republican Senators, but the administration has made no such claim to date, unless I've missed something. So far, they have almost completely ignored the discovery of the artillery shells which indicates to me that they don't beleive this quantifies the WMD claim. The administration has played this down, they certainly haven't mounted a public affairs campaign on it. And one would think that if a discovery that did quantify the WMD claim was made, it would be faxed out in the Republican talking points. I've seen no evidence of that. I've seen one or two lone Senators making that claim, but nobody from the administration. Again, unless I missed something.

Looks to me like he asked a question. I see, ummm, yup, I see a little wiggly thing with a dot (?). Question. I have yet to see where a question requires supporting documentation. They usually want answers. This is probably a question that would be best answered by a, hmmm, an average dumbass republican. Any takers?

The shells are a non-issue, thats the whole point. And I'll be redundant so maybe it will sink in.
"The plot thickens." Hows that? Who is thickening the plot other than non-players like the radio pundits and a couple of lone wolf Senators trying to get their face in front of a TV camera? Anyone?

Hey, fish on! Radio pundits are not non-players. A shitload of Americans listen to talk radio, and if this crap can take wing there, and in a few "test" constituencies, perhaps it will be worth some noise from the WH, but the administration sees that this is shaky, and won't run with it without some solid public support up front.

The administration would like the public to believe that there actually were, or are, weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, other than ours. They cannot change the facts, and so they have set about on a campaign of perception management. It is important that the public believe that Iraq had WMDs, that there was and is a good reason for trashing and looting Iraq, and it is not important why or how they believe this. In fact, any such claim is so highly disputable that it would be better if it did not come directly from the administration, so it is disseminated from the bottom rather than the top. People hear it on talk radio first...O'Really? said...Rush said...Now you may not take these radio pundits seriously, and I don't, but, sadly, a great many Americans do. Throw in a couple of senators saying "See? We found them!" and you get a few more believers. The White House is no longer looking for a big play, they are settling for grinding this out a yard at a time. Besides, the high-end media is probably a little leery of any new WMD claims. They still have their future credibility to think of.

Okay zooks. This is not out of the realm of possiblility, I'll give you that.
But I still say that the average thinking American knows darn good and well that the discovery of those shells doesn't rise to the level of WMDs. It certainly doesn't fit the pre war description provided by Powell at the UN. And it's a stretch to try and make it fit, I just think that most Americans are smart enough to figure that out.
The people who will beleive that this is the smoking gun, are people who wanted to beleive it in the first place, I don't think alot of minds are going to actually change because of this.

Cap'n.
There's also no need to be deliberately naive.
The fact is these turds DO use the media.
The fact is, there is NO LAW that states any of "the news" has to be the truth!
The fact is, the news industry is a for profit industry, and if anyone wants to pay enough, then they can "make the news"
The fact is, "the money" can come directly as up front cash, or it can come from increased ratings! Fear sells a LOT of ratings! CODE ORANGE. Pictures at 11!
MOST Americans, if not EVERY American has been duped at one time.
Some more or less than others. Trust that Information Minister Rove knows his job!

When we get the clean sweep in November, getting Fairness Doctrine back should be second on the agenda (Impeachment should still be the first

Someone at a different forum stated this situation very well. Accurate and to the point:
"I see...so you're good with 2500 deaths...over 20K horrific injuries ...because we wanted to disarm Saddam of rusty shells with degraded sarin...found in abandoned storage facilites or on the ground in old Iraq/Iran battlefields?"

People will believe what ever they do, some times for reasons known only to them selves.
I think some just don't wanna admit they were wrong, and that some just don't wanna admit that THEIR government could ever possibly lie to them. That's what the bad guys do, and WE aren't the bad guys! EVER! That's why the all watch Faux knews. Because Faux gives them what they want, even though most who watch know it Bull Shit!
It's fucked up for sure! But there it is, the reality!
The question then becomes, how do we best work WITH this reality, and make it work FOR us instead of against us?
The Republicans figured this question out a couple of decades back.
Are we so wise that we can no longer learn?
And if we are that smart, then how come we're in the mess that we are?

I was reading today more about this and one expert believes that a lot of people who think that Iraq had WMD, is because they need some reason to rationalize their three and half year support of the war, even if it is flat out false. Its sad to see people so broken.
