Whether it be local, state or federal, do any of you have a candidate in mind that you actually like? I'd like to hear more about who you could support and why. Anyone?

I'm supporting Carol Shea Porter for Congress in NH district 1. http://www.carolforcongress.com/index.php?blog=2&cat=19

Carol is smart, and extremely well informed on the issues that matter to NH residents. Our Congressional delegation is way, way out of step with the voters of our state. Jeb Bradley (Carol's opponent) just distinguished himself by being the ONLY Congressperson from New England to vote for an amendment to the US constitution to ban same gender marriage. Earlier this year, a bill was filed in NH, to put an amendment to the NH constitution on same gender marriage on the ballot this year. It went down in flames.

I first met Carol as we were both following Bradley around the district, attending his town hall meetings. She was always very polite and warm with him, even as she firmly insisted he answer her questions.

Bradley ran a terribly sexist campaign against state senator Martha Fuller Clark in 2002. There is a certain justice in a woman defeating Bradley that appeals to me as well.... dance.gif

Libertas
Dennis Kucinich, who is not afraid to challenge the foreign policy of hawks and neocons, nor the economic nonsense of the Washington Consensus.

Barbara Boxer, who has repeatedly been one of the Senate's most progressive members (with few lapses), who supported the censure of our immoral President.

Mike Thompson, my representative in CA, who has a progressive record and has stood consistently against the war.

Paul Hackett, who has impeccable military record, and because he understands war, he has campaigned against it.

I like Kucinich a lot too even tho his presidential chances are pretty slim. His fellow congressman from Ohio, Sherrod Brown, is philosophically similiar; an excellent progressive with a record to prove it. Brown is currently running for Mike DeWine's senate seat and altho the polls fluctuate greatly from week to week I think his chances are good. A former Secretary of State, he's been in Ohio politics a long time and never lost an election.

Brown, relatively young and telegenic, is considered one the stars of the Ohio Democratic Party. In 2001, when the Republican-controlled legislature threatened to gerrymander him out of office, Brown threatened to run for governor in 2002. The Republicans backed down, preserving Brown's majority Democratic district, and Brown stayed in the U.S. House of Representatives.

In 2005, Brown led the Democratic effort to block the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA). For many months, Brown worked as whip on the issue, securing Democratic "nay" votes and seeking Republican allies. After several delays, the House of Representatives finally voted on CAFTA after midnight on July 28, 2005. Keeping the roll call open well past the 15 minute standard, the House approved CAFTA by a vote of 217 to 215. CAFTA effectively passed by one vote - a tie would have resulted in a defeat.

Brown cites this stinging outcome as the impetus for the next stage of his career: running for the U.S. Senate.

Reelection wasn't part of the question.
So, I chose one of my favorite politicians.
