Hello, I came to read, learn, and see what your thought process is about. I read the rules and will abide by them. Im not here to argue or further a cause.
I spend 23 years in the Military, live in Texas, and indeed, I am a Conservative. But, thinking is a 360 degree process and to understand what you believe it has to be tested. For that to happen...opposite thoughts solidify or confound beliefs.

Though I am a Liberal, I like the idea of the process that is the American Ideal.
Part of that, is the give and take between the differing political views.
It's through this give and take that we as Americans come to a concensus.

That is, as long as both side play by the rules, and that might be asking too much of some.

Nothing wrong with conservatism. It's the jackasses running things and hiding behind the cloak of conservatism that I have a problem with.

I personally have no real issue against smaller government or lower taxes.

Unfortunately, as a liberal, I don't want one at the expense of the other.
Or to increase the gap between the top and the bottom.

There are many conservatives now saying things like, "The party left me, I didn't leave them." Just what in the Bush presidency so far has reflected restrained government spending and less government intrusion into peoples' lives? See? He's not a conservative.

I'm in the middle of reading John Dean's Conservatives without Conscience. The history of American conservatism has been interesting, since I didn't know anything about it before.

I have several conservative friends. We have more in common than not.
They don't believe true Conservatives/Republicans are in power either.
The Neocon thugs are imposters with power, domination and greed on their minds.
Very little they do is fiscally, socially, ethically, or morally responsible.

Compassionate Conservativism? Why were our boys sent to the desert without proper flak gear and armour. and why in the hell is VA care so ineffective?

I believe they represent the military-industrial and uber rich and no-one else, and only pay lip service to what real conservatism is about. Conservatives used to see a strict interpretation of the Constitution, now they have consolidated power from the other 2 branches, making the executive branch untouchable. They do not honor seperation of church and state, so as to pander to the masses to keep themin power.

Yeah, I am a liberal (especially a social liberal); but have lots in common with fiscal conservatism, not voodoo economics.

Thanks for the welcome, M'am. I don't hate the current administration as some do though Im not real impressed with the decision making process. As for sending the kids to the desert without proper gear. Some of what you read was true.....some was not. Body Armor wasnt a big issue though it could have always been better. It's getting there. The vehicles. Yep, HUGE goat screw on that. But there is an old saying. You can't never do what you should have done and while many just LIKE to hate on W, Bill C can take some of the blame.
But....another time another forum.

As many Conservatives are learning that "W" isn't much of a Republican,
many of us Liberals are learning that "Bill C" wasn't much of a Democrat.
